Main Show Sponsors

We are pleased to announce that our main sponsors for 2022’s National Koi Show are Shirley Aquatics and Hikari.

Shirley Aquatics is a name you can rely on.

We first attended the BKKS National show over 30 years ago at Billing Aquadrome in Northampton, the show is now ideally located for us in the Midlands, just 20 minutes away from our store.

This gives us the opportunity of showing our range of high quality koi from several top breeders in Japan who have now become friends over the last 40 years, to koi enthusiasts from around the Country who attend the show. They can also see our koi equipment is very competitively priced.

Shirley Aquatics first opened it’s doors in 1939 on the Stratford Road, Shirley, West Midlands. We were pioneers in marine keeping, tropical plant growth and Koi keeping. In 1982 Ronald and John Cook, who had already become market leaders in importing Japanese Koi, took over the business.

Over the course of 35 years the family built on early successes, making Shirley Aquatics one of the largest and most well known aquatic stores in Europe, by concentrating on quality brands and customer service synonymous with a family run business.

In 2016 we decided that it was time for a change. The old building had done a fantastic job and kept us and many hundreds of thousands of customers happy over the years, but we needed a fresh start and a fresh challenge.

We moved the entire store to its present location, just one junction down the M42 on an already much loved farm retail site, Becketts Farm. We took over what was little more than a barn and created a store fit to carry on the nearly 80 year old legacy.

Hikari fish foods are manufactured in Japan by Koyrin Co Ltd, part of the Kamihata Fish Industry Group.

The Kamihata Fish Industry Group was established in 1877, initially breeding and then wholesaling ornamental fish.  Kamihata is now Japan’s leading supplier of live tropical and marine fish.

As well as extensive fish food production facilities, including the manufacture of frozen foods, Kamihata owns the world renowned Yamasaki Koi Farm, one of the largest Koi farms in Japan. Covering almost 10 acres with 50 culture ponds and 6 greenhouses, Hikari diets are used at the Yamasaki Koi Farm providing first hand information about the growth and colour characteristics each diet offers.

Kamihata also owns a state of the art aquatic laboratory, which includes 445 aquariums housed in rooms operating low, high and variable temperatures, again providing first hand experience in breeding and raising fish, and scientific data which can be used for future product development. Decades of experience ensure that all Hikari fish foods provide exacting nutrition for all types of fish, and which make Hikari the world’s most recognised brand of premium quality fish foods.
